NBA: What to Watch for in December

It’s already December for the NBA, and here are some teams and players to watch before new years.

Team Nonsense

Lakers – LeBron James has the Los Angeles Lakers 4 games over 500, and mostly staying around-between the 4th and 8th spot of the West. All eyes will be on the matchup against the Golden State Warriors on December 25th, but overall is a favorable schedule for the Lakers. LeBron has led in scoring in all but 5 games so far in the season. The Lakers also only have 4 players scoring in double digits. The point being while the greatness of (King) James is great to watch, are any of the young guys (Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball or Josh Hart) going to give LeBron some help.

Vs Houston, Dec 12th. Game 2 of 4 game series. Houston Lead 1-0.

Vs Warriors, Dec 25th. 1st of 4 game series.

Raptors – Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors have beaten up on the NBA, it’s been that simple. Yes, they beat a Curry-less Warriors but a 19-4 record speaks for itself. The current 7 game winning streak is the best of the season. All eyes will be on the rematch vs the Warriors on Dec 12th. Kyle Lowry adaption to his new role for the Raptors has also being impressive

Vs Warriors, Dec 12th.  Last meeting of the season.

Clippers/Nuggets – They’re the 2 teams at the top of the Western Conference starting the month of December. The Los Angeles Clippers are led by Tobias Harris, Lou Williams and the most overachieving crew in basketball right now. The Denver Nuggets have young guys with no sense of conscious shooting, they just know how to shoot. Clippers and the Nuggets are not worrying themselves on who the star is or making glamorous plays, they want to win.

Game 2 of 4 game series. Nuggets lead series 1-0.

Player Nonsense

Russell WestbrookWestbrook enters the month averaging 23.2 Ppg, 9.8 Apg and 10.1 Rpg. Correct me if I’m wrong but he is .2 from averaging a triple-double for the season. He’s already caught up to Jason Kidd, and Magic Johnson is next. Fifteen games in the month of December how many triple doubles will he get?

Allonzo TrierHe’s an undrafted rookie out of Arizona averaging 11.8 Ppg. One of four players that have played all games for the New York Knicks. Trier is not just getting it done but also working his way to be a 2 way player that’s going to leave all on the court. According to, Trier is shooting 48.7% and 45% from 3. While he hasn’t taken as many shots as Trae Young or Luka Doncic, Trier is a player that teams are starting to notice.

Luka Doncic – He’s the resurrection of Dirk Nowitzki for the Dallas Mavericks. His development and the way that he’s translated his game into the NBA has been beyond smooth. He’s not getting bullied around and doesn’t seem to be scare of the NBA physicality. Doncic should be able to find consistency as the season goes along and that will turn into wins. The Mavericks may be done rebuilding and start getting ready to think about the NBA playoffs.
