Now that Xmas day has passed and the NBA season has officially started, we are now going to see rookies either sink or swim.

We all know the NBA season is 82 grueling games. In order to stay in shape and strive with the elites of basketball you must have certain kind of discipline to get better and progress as a professional. The amount of work you must put in and the consistency that it takes to stay at that level is astonishing.

That’s why it usually takes an NBA player 7 years to get into their prime unless you come out the gate into the NBA with talent and a high work ethic like some of the greats Kobe, Lebron, Kyrie, Devin Booker, Jayson Tatum, and so on.

Now with the money and fame that comes with being an NBA player, your life literally changes overnight for young stars like Dennis smith jr., Josh Jackson, and Lonzo Ball. These guys literally want for nothing and without the proper maturity, the new life can take over whats more important and that’s getting better in the NBA.

After Xmas is where you start to see the difference between a veteran and a rookie. A lot of the times the rookies do not maintain their conditioning and starts to see a decline in minutes and productions

The veteran players or players with 7+ years in the league, start to have breakout games where they drop season highs in any given stats to make up for the lack of consistency of rookies.

The rookie players that keep up with their bodies and get better stand out and have games where we as fans see flashes of their greatness like last season when Devin booker dropped 70 points on the Celtics.

In college, the most games a player would play is 31. We are at that point right now in the NBA season and now schedules are getting to get harder, the competition is getting fierce and scouting report is more accurate.

Players like Donovan Mitchell who is having a phenomenal breakout year, numbers may slightly decrease because NBA teams now have data and develop defensive schemes to slow down the rookie.

Jayson Tatum who has a big role on the Boston Celtics and sees big time minutes will start to feel how grueling the NBA season is and may have a slight decrease in numbers.

With Boston having a lot of young players on their, I would expect to see them start losing games more frequently, adding weight to Kyrie Irving’s shoulders.

Ben Simmons and the 76ers and have a lot of young talent on their team and will be threat in the next coming years after Lebron reign is over, are already having a hard time losing 8 of their last 11 games.

The phx suns are the prime example in this argument. They may not be a contending team for the next 5 years but they need a veteran there with a high work ethic to set the example of what they should be doing to be a better competitor. Players like marquise Chriss was not even ready for this season… and looking at the team, it looked like one on the team besides Devin booker was ready for this season.

Out of all the great rookies we have in the NBA I say Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Jayson Tatum, and Lauri Markennon will be the outstanding rookies this season.
